About Wetumpka
Wetumpka Alabama is a wonderful place. What every new person notices after a while is the terrific Art Deco bridge over the river that bisects the old downtown area. There as so many images of this landmark that it appears on official documents and websites (check out the Chamber of Commerce site below). The Elmore County Art Guild has even developed a special gallery on its website for images of this local icon. As a small town, it has a comfortable feeling like your favorite old pair of slippers. There are many things about it that make you feel that it is out of another time. Like the cafe downtown with its regulars there every morning. Like the bright white siding and green roofs on many of the long standing churches in the community. But, like many such places in America, it is also changing with more modern times. There's a Super Wal-Mart on the main highway and the Porch Creek Indian tribe has built a casino on some riverfront property. New restaurants and businesses are springing up all over. The landscape and the traffic are changing but there is still the good feeling of a small town here. Good people and a good place to be. ~•~ City of Wetumpka |
