Sizing

Gates can be had in two general types: 1.) the garden gate or walk gate and 2.) the drive gate for driveways. Because each gate is a custom design, they can be made to your size specifications. Remember that size will impact design if you choose one of the 200 or 300 series designs as these have elements that are fixed sizes and their spacing will be altered depending on the sizes specified.

In measuring the space for your gate, remember that the type of hinges and latch system will need to be included in filling the available gate space.

For existing openings: The simplest thing to do is to measure the full space available by height and width and measure the thickness of the wall or post (if the gate is to fit into an existing opening) that will support the gate hinges as well as the side that will hold the latch system.

Finally, it is a good idea to take a photograph of the site and the attachment post or masonry structure.
